while trying to use VLC to open the AVI files recorded by my digital camera, I noticed that the Intel version apparently does not play nice with them. I seem to remember the PPC version working OK (but I might be wrong here, I'll do some testing), so I thought I'd see if anyone else had noticed this. For the record, Quicktime plays them just fine.
The behavior I'm having is as follows: VLC opens the file and starts to play it back. Playback speed seems to be OK, audio is played back properly, but the video output stays black. At this point, VLC cannot be quit normally whether I stop the video or let it run to the end. Apple-Q does not do the trick, nor does selecting 'Quit VLC'. Force Quit works (but is rather brutal ).
I did a little searching around, and seem to have found another post about a seemingly similar problem ( viewtopic.php?t=18525&highlight=mjpeg ), to which alas no solution was given.
I'm attaching the messages produced when playing back such a clip, in case they help. I will be glad to provide more information as needed, and apologies in case it's a known problem or I missed some 'how to post bugreports' thread.
